One Little Word 2015: Thrive

One Little Word 2015: Thrive

thrive   Two Thousand Fourteen was a year that brought a lot of change in to the Marshall household. Sometimes change is for the better. We built a brand new house from the ground up and while it certainly had it’s own set of stressors at times, ultimately we are so happy in our new home. I changed positions from an Administrative Intern, (an assistant principal without the admin pay), to go back in to the classroom and teach 5th graders. This brought it’s own set of challenges. I had to get back on the bike so to speak and re-learn how to be a teacher! My students are awesome and I love every single one of them. I am so happy I made the decision to go back. The only thing that makes me nervous is the high stakes testing. Fifth graders in Oklahoma are tested over EVERY subject not just Reading and Math like the other elementary grades. I feel a great deal of responsibility to make sure these students are ready to show the state what they know. I say all this to let you know that while 2014 was an amazing ride, I do believe I was busy learning how to Survive. How awful would life be if all we did was try to survive? I believe that our Creator made us to be the best possible beings we can, and part of that is learning to THRIVE in every situation.

When I looked up Thrive in the dictionary there were to possible definitions: 1. to grow or develop well, or vigorously 2. prosper; flourish. These were the synonyms they gave me: flourish, prosper, advance, succeed, bloom, blossom, and boom. There are several areas in my life that can benefit from learning to THRIVE.

Emotionally: I have recently been off of my anti-depressant medication and I feel that learning to THRIVE will help me get my emotions in check. Sometimes just journaling about my feelings on an incident is enough to make me feel better and recognize where I could have done better.

Spiritually: I have not done a very good job at connecting with my spiritual side in the past few years. I feel that it is important to keep myself balanced as a human being to be in tune with nature and all of the beauty that surrounds me on a daily basis. The Creator wants us to enjoy his creations.

Health: I have been content with trying to lose weight and exercise by doing the latest fads for too long. It is time to put my whole energy and effort in to doing what I know needs to be done, so I am not just merely eating to survive but to THRIVE. I want to run in 5ks this year. I would like to do a Warrior Dash in May, and my current Physical condition is NO WHERE near where it has to be for me to attempt something like that. I want to make small sustainable changes that will last for my life.

Creatively: I have been purchasing and collecting  A LOT of beautiful scrapbooking products, but I cannot tell you the last time I sat down and truly produced something that I can say I am proud of. I want to use what I have in 2015, and THRIVE creatively by getting our everyday stories told in my Pocket Scrapbooking.  My plan is to do weekly spreads this year and to add my personal creative touch to our everyday lives. I will be posting my weekly spreads here on the blog and on my Facebook page as well.

Relationships: Lastly, and what I think could be the most important area, I want to THRIVE in my relationships in 2015. I want to unplug more days and really be present with my children and just play. I want to hug my husband as soon as he walks in the door and let him know how much he is appreciated in our house. I want to call up a friend or send a hand written card to them just because I miss them. I want to really be forgiving with myself. I too often am wrapped up in things having to be just right or perfect and can’t let go when things don’t go the way I think they should. Sometimes that is just the way life goes and I need to learn to let it go and let it be.

These are my intentions for the new year. I hope you will join me in my journey. Feel free to check in and ask questions. Have you chosen a word for 2015? How will you make your self better this year?

LSSC 3: Week 1

Howdy there!

Today I am sharing my latest layout titled Big Brother. I am a part of a team on Sparkpeople called Scrapalicious. We have started a new round of the Last Scrapper Standing Challenge. This week the challenge was to use a specific sketch and include at least 6 elements from a list provided. Here is my result:

Big Brother Layout

The elements I chose to include were:

  1. The color combination of blue, green, and yellow. I also added brown.
  2. 2 solid papers and 1 patterned. I added another patterned.
  3. Circle diecut/punch
  4. journaling
  5. Title cut from paper. I cut the word BIG out using my cricut.
  6. Chipboard I used the chipboard words love, laughter, and smile to help me tell the story.

Cars & Legos

When Jase found out we were having a little boy his favorite thing to tell people was, “I will teach him to play cars and Legos!”

The journaling reads: John is so lucky to have such a great big brother. I can’t help but smile when I think about all the years I have to look forward to filled with lots of love and a ton of laughter.

Thank you for stopping by. If you like what you read share on your favorite social media 🙂

AlmostNeverClever Blog Cell Phone Q2 Blog Hop!

Hello! Welcome to my little corner of the internet. Some of you may be coming from Danielle at Today I am participating in a blog hop that Natalie has put together at Almost Never Clever we are displaying our favorite cell phone pictures from the second quarter of the year (April-June). I was so excited to be asked to be a part of this and I can’t wait to see everyone else’s photos.

My first picture is of my mother and myself. We have been participating in a Biggest Loser Challenge for our city and in April we got to walk a 6 mile trek as our team challenge. We both finished and that camelbak came in VERY handy 🙂

This is a picture of the newest skyscraper in Oklahoma City at night. This is the Devon Tower. I couldn’t help but think it was so beautiful lit up at night.

Here we have a picture of the sidewalk chalk art from Drover’s Stock at the University of Science and Arts in Chickasha. The talent was amazing and all of the sidewalk art was really beautiful. lol I really like that word.:)

These are some flowers that were at my brother in law’s parent’s house. I loved the yellow!

Say hello to my favorite little oasis. This is my water pond that my husband built me for Mother’s Day a couple of years ago. This summer we really spruced it up with the tiki torches and flower pots. I love the peaceful and serene feeling I get when I swing on my little porch swing. This is my HAPPY place 🙂

This is a picture of some owl cupcakes I made. I got the idea from Pinterest. I still haven’t decided if it is Pinterest fail or not. They tasted good, but they look a little busted 🙂 The important thing is the kids loved them, so all in all it was definitely a mission accomplished!

This is a picture of my favorite animal from the zoo. This beautiful guy was blocking our path to the children’s zoo area with slides. Jase LOVES the slides so we had to get close to him and I took the opportunity to snap this quick picture.

This is Jase. This is his favorite toy. He got it from my sister for Christmas this year. He loves to get 2 or 3 cars going on the loops at one time and watch them crash. What is it with little boys and crashing cars?

Last but not least, please meet the newest addition to our family Bo Bunny! I call her BB for short, but there is nothing short about her. She is a Rex rabbit which is one of the biggest breeds of rabbits. She is so sweet and docile. I know she will fit into our family perfectly.

This is just a little view into my life through the lens of my cell phone. I took many more pictures but I just wanted to showcase a few of my favorite. Thank you to Natalie for allowing me to be a part of this blog hop. Please be sure to check out al of the other ladies on the list! Your next stop is Mariah: Its Fun2Scrap.

Chosen Family

This Friday was a bitter sweet day in the Marshall home. We have had the biggest blessing by finding Miss Megan and her parents Anita and Steve to help us out by watching Jase. Image

He is the only child they take care of, so he is absolutely spoiled rotten. Image

They have had a huge part in his development  and I know he wouldn’t be as kind and loving as his is today without them. Image

Friday was Megan’s last day as Jase’s sitter. Image Read the rest of this entry

Oh The Places You’ll Go!

I belong to a healthy lifestyles website called Sparkpeople and there I am a member of the team Scrapalicious. There we get to learn about our new lifestyles together and have fun scrapbooking while we do it. (Plus, the name TOTALLY fits 🙂 ) I am participating in a challenge called the Last Scrapper Standing.
